Distasteful is in the Eye of the Dis-taster

After experiencing all of the internet hoopla recently over the “scandalous” photos of Miley Cyrus, I really have to wonder. Yeah, she’s a representative for Disney and yeah, she’s only fifteen years old. What I can’t seem to wrap my pea brain around is what people are finding wrong with this portrait. (Note that I did not say, “picture”) It makes me wonder what one thinks when one looks at it . It also makes me think that humanity has nothing better to do than to live vicariously through the lives of our celebrities. Kind of sad really because this is a beautiful portrait and tastefully done.
Throughout my travels in the world, I have found that the people in the United States are probably the most uptight when it comes to anything that can be considered sexual. With that in mind, if this is simply a matter of a young pubescent woman who is experimenting with her femininity, then quite honestly, I think that she has made a very good choice. I personally have seen worse right in our own schools; all the way down to grade school. Yet, the LA Times refers to some of the photos of her on the internet as naughty and provocative and quote Disney executives as saying, “the combination of celebrity and the Internet can magnify teenage high jinks in embarrassing ways.” Give me a break! Being a teenager is the only requirement necessary to magnify hijinks. (I’m sorry for being a teenager Dad!!)
The truth of the matter, at least for me, is that this is a young woman who has been raised well, has values and a good head on her shoulder. Leave her alone, she has nothing to apologize for.
If you think the photograph of Miley is distasteful, you should get a load of this one!!

This is the first I’ve seen the portrait. I’ve been trying to find it, but couldn’t. I think it’s beautiful and tasteful, and at least it’s art and not porn. lol
now.. that second picture…

that second one, while not porn, is certainly not art!!
LOL
I fell out laughing at that video. It was a hoot. I have to wonder … who owns Vanity Fair? Disney? Did they create the kerfuffle to sell more issues? Because those were the most tame photos I’ve ever seen.

When I got my issue of “Vanity Fair” with the controversial photo, I was actually “shocked” how “unshocking” it was. I couldn’t believe that the media–the national news shows–actually reported on that issue! Especially when the magazine has far more pornographic photos in the advertisements for clothing and perfume. It was a lot of hoopla over nada.
But we should know by now that our media is shallow and prone to create controversies that don’t exist while ignoring far more important issues at hand.

I am in agreement with you all…………well except for you Nate.
If you didn’t go to Sonja’s site to link to the video or watch it from my site, there was one thing said in the middle that was “oh so true”. Disney has a few more things more important than Miley Cyrus that they need to apologize for. Does “The Black Hole” ring a bell?
